A commencement-level course in technology education may be used as the third unit of credit in science or mathematics, but not both. (b) Students taking a sequence of not less than 5 units of credit in career and technical education (CTE) or the arts may substitute another 3-unit or 5-unit sequence in place of the 3 units in a language other than English (LOTE). (c) To earn the advanced designation, the student must complete one of the following: 1. A language other than English (3 credits) 2. CTE (5 credits) 3. The Arts (5 credits) (d) Students who complete Checkpoint A and two units of study in a single language other than English no later than the end of grade 8 must pass the second language proficiency examination in order to earn one unit of credit toward their high school diploma. NYS Testing Requirements for Graduation Class of 2011 (Entering 9th grade in 2007) For a Local Diploma: Score 65 or above on 4 required Regents exams and 55 or above on 1 required Regents exam.
For a Regents Diploma: Score of 65 or above on 5 required Regents exams.
For a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation: Score of 65 or above on 8 or 9 required Regents exams.
1. Math A and Math B Or 2. Math A and Algebra 2 / Trigonometry Or 3. Integrated Algebra and Geometry and Algebra 2 / Trigonometry Or 4. Math A and Geometry and Algebra 2 / Trigonometry
*LOTE (Language other than English) Students, however, may choose a 5-unit sequence in one of the following area: Career Technical Education (Business Technology, Mechanical Drawing, TEC Center) or Music or Art to substitute for LOTE.
