Universal Expectations: High School English Department

Basic Guidelines: Four P’s

1.      Be present

2.      Be prompt and punctual

3.      Be prepared…books, pens, papers, homework

4.      Be polite

We expect that homework will be completed as assigned.

Work for students who have been absent must be submitted within the completion of the next schedule cycle.  Please call for homework if you are absent. Homework assignments are usually available at watkinsglenschools.com, under your teacher’s name.

 We expect students to adhere to the school code of conduct, with a concentration in these areas:

·        Students are not to sleep in class

·        Students are not to wear hats in class

·        Students are not to bring food or drink (water only)     

·        Students are not to wear headphones in class

·        Students are not to have cell phone, pagers or electronic games in class

Supply List: English Department

Grades 9-11: 

Blue or black pen

Some typed work (computers available in school)

3-subject notebook with pockets or folders

Marble composition book or single subject notebook for use as a Journal (Humanities)

Grade 12

3-subject notebook with pockets or folders

Thesis:  Index cards (4 x 6 or  5 x 8)

              Portfolio

Some typed work (computers available in school)

These English electives are available to upperclassmen.  Completion of one year or more of these courses also provides a sequence in English.

                                    (also meets erforming arts requirement)
