The district offers a variety of services to students and their parents. Height and weight measurements are taken, immunization records are kept up to date and vision and hearing screenings are given to every student on an annual basis. Parents are notified of any problems found, with counseling and follow-up work done when necessary. Physical screenings are given to all students in Grades K, 1, 3, 7, 10 and those participating in extracurricular sports. It is also possible to obtain a physical fitness certificate necessary for working papers in the High School and Middle School health offices.
No medication, including nonprescription medications, may be administered in any school unless accompanied by a note from a doctor giving such permission to the school health services staff. The doctor must inform us in writing what the medicine is, the dosage and when the student is to take it. The medicine must be provided in the original container. A permission slip to administer the medicine must also be provided by the parent/guardian.
Remember, if you need immunization records for your child to enroll in summer camp, please call before June 15. Camp and daycare physicals should be done by your family physician.
All students are required by law to be immunized against polio, diphtheria, measles, German measles (rubella) and mumps. The school district cannot admit new students who do not have doctor’s proof of these immunizations. All immunization records can be submitted to the school your child attends. Check with the school's health office for requirements.
Children born on or after January 1, 1985 are required to show proof of two vaccines against measles.
Watkins Glen District students and athletes are covered by an excess accident insurance policy. All injuries that require medical attention must be reported to the school's health office as soon as possible. For more information, please call Liz Paradiso at 535-3212.

Regular attendance is essential if a student is to gain the full benefit of the school program. While attendance is required of all eligible students by law under certain specific conditions, students who attend regularly because they believe school is an important part of their lives and who see the value of preparing for life beyond school years seem to learn more and enjoy the experience.
Promote regular attendance. Make it a way of life for your children and help them gain as much as possible from the school program.
